How Do I Delete Messages or Reset a Group Chat?
Managing group chats is important for keeping communication clear and organized, especially as conversations grow over time. Whether you're looking to delete individual messages or start fresh for a new school year, this guide explains who can delete messages, how permissions work, and what options are available for resetting or hiding group chats in Onespot.
🧑💼 Who Can Delete Messages?
Only admins or moderators/editors of a specific group chat can delete messages.
- When you're an admin (or have edit permissions for the chat screen), you'll see a trash icon 🗑️ next to messages you've posted, allowing you to delete them.
- If you're not an admin, you won’t see the trash icon and won’t be able to delete messages, even your own.
✅ Admins must either:
- Have the Superpowers permission (which allows them to manage/edit all screens), or
- Be assigned as a moderator/editor for that specific group chat screen.
🚮 Can I Delete an Entire Chat Feed?
Currently, there is no built-in one-click way to delete an entire chat feed, but you have two simple options:
Option 1: Delete the Chat Screen
If you're sure you no longer need the chat, you can delete the entire group chat screen.
Option 2: Hide the Chat Screen
If you may need to reference the conversation later, you can hide the screen instead.
💡 Hiding is useful at the end of a school year or event. You can always unhide it when needed.
