How to Create and Use Polls in Group Chats and Activity Feeds.
Want to ask your community a quick question and see the answers come in live? Polls let you add a question with up to 12 options to any message in a Group Chat or Activity Feed. People vote with one tap, and everyone can watch the results update in real time.
Polls also replace the old Event (RSVP) option, so "Who's coming?" and "Yes / No" questions now live here.
🧩 What's a Poll?
A poll is an optional attachment on a message, just like photos or a PDF. Every poll has:
- A question
- 2 to 12 options people can vote on
- A setting for whether people can pick one option or more than one
Polls work the same way in Group Chats and Activity Feeds, including inside reply threads.
📝 How to Create a Poll
- Open the Group Chat or Activity Feed and start a new message or post.
- Open the attachment options where you'd normally add a photo or PDF (in a Group Chat, that's the + button next to the message box), then tap Poll.
- Type your question.
- Add your options. Type one, then press Return to add the next. You need at least 2 and can add up to 12.
- Turn on Allow multiple answers if people should be able to pick more than one option.
- If you'd like, add a message above the poll in the Add details (optional) box. You can also add images to the same post.
- Tap Send.

💡 The Send button stays grayed out until your poll has a question and at least 2 different options. If two options are the same, they're highlighted so you can fix them.
Quick start options
On a new poll, you'll see two quick start buttons that fill in the question and options for you:
- Who's coming? adds Going, Maybe, and Can't make it
- Yes / No adds Yes and No
You can still change anything they fill in before you send.

👉 Looking for the old Event RSVP option? Use the Who's coming? quick start. It gives you the same Going / Maybe / Can't make it choices.
If your post doesn't go through (for example, you lose connection), everything you typed stays in place so you can try again without retyping your poll.
✅ How to Vote
- Tap an option to vote. Your vote counts right away.
- Tap it again to take your vote back.
- On a one-answer poll, picking a different option replaces your earlier vote.
- On a multiple-answer poll, you can tap as many options as you like.
You can change your vote anytime until the poll ends.
💡 Long-pressing a poll still opens the usual message menu (reply, react, and so on). Tapping an option is what casts your vote.
📊 Viewing Results
Each option shows a live bar, a vote count, and small pictures of the most recent people who voted for it. At the bottom of the poll you'll see how many people have voted in total.

Tap View votes to see the full breakdown. It lists everyone who voted for each option and when, with a Your vote tag next to your own choice.

⚠️ Votes aren't anonymous. Anyone in the chat or feed can tap View votes and see who voted for what.
🔒 Ending or Reopening a Poll
The person who posted the poll, or an admin or moderator/editor of that chat or feed, can end a poll so no more votes come in:
- In a Group Chat: long-press the poll and choose End poll. To open it again, long-press and choose Reopen poll.
- In an Activity Feed post: use the End poll or Reopen poll button at the bottom of the poll.
Once a poll has ended:
- It's labeled Poll ended.
- The winning option gets a 🏆 trophy. If there's a tie, more than one option can win.
- The other options are dimmed.
- Everyone can still see the results, but no one can vote.

✏️ Editing or Deleting a Poll Post
You can edit the message that goes with your poll, the same way you edit any message. See How to Edit a Message or Post.
The poll itself (question, options, and settings) can't be changed after it's posted. If the poll needs to change, delete the post and create a new one. See How to Delete Messages.
❓ Good to Know
- Old RSVP posts still work. Any Event/RSVP posts created before this update still display and work as before. You just can't create new ones.
- Notifications: a new poll sends a notification like "Sean posted a poll" with a preview of the question. In Messages, it shows as 📊 followed by the question.
- Update your app: anyone on an older version of the Onespot app will see the post's message and photos, but not the poll. They'll need to update the app to see and vote.
- Polls vs. Vote reactions: Vote reactions (upvote/downvote) are a reaction style, not a poll. For a question with choices and results, use a poll. See How to Use Emoji & Vote Reactions.
