How to Edit a Message or Post

Made a typo, or need to fix the wording in something you posted? In Onespot, you can edit the text of your own messages and posts — in both Group Chats and Activity Feeds — after they've been sent. This guide covers who can edit, what can (and can't) be changed, and how anyone can view a message's full edit history.

👥 Who Can Edit a Message or Post?

Anyone can edit the text of a post, comment, or chat message they authored — no admin or moderator permission is required.

• You'll only see the edit option on your own messages and posts, never on someone else's.
• This is different from deleting, which requires admin or moderator/editor permissions for that screen — see How to Delete Messages.

✏️ What Can Be Edited?

Only the text of a message or post can be changed. Photos, files, and the RSVP option (if the post has one) stay exactly as they were originally posted.

📝 How to Edit

In a Group Chat

• Long-press your message (or use the … menu when using Onespot on the web) and choose Edit message — or Edit reply for a threaded reply.
• Update the text and tap Save.

In an Activity Feed

• Look for the pencil icon next to your own post or comment. It sits alongside the moderator's trash icon, but only you see it on your own content.
• Tap it, update the text, and save.

🕘 Seeing That a Message Was Edited

An edited message or post shows a small, underlined Edited label next to its timestamp. Editing keeps the message in place with its original post time — it doesn't bump it to the top or update the timestamp; it just adds the Edited label.

Anyone who can see the message can tap the Edited label — or choose View edit history from the long-press menu in a chat — to open its full history. At the top you'll see the author's name and how many versions there are, then every version listed newest first. The most recent version is marked Current and the very first is marked Original; any versions in between simply show their own timestamp, with no label.

❓ Good to Know

• Editing changes the text going forward — it doesn't retract or unsend a message. If you sent something to the wrong audience entirely, editing won't fix that — see Can I unsend a message sent to the whole community?
• Photos, files, and RSVP options can't be edited after posting. If those need to change, you'd delete the post and repost it (if you have delete permission), or ask an admin/moderator.
