How Admins Can See All Group Chats and Activity Feeds
If you're an admin with permission to view and manage all members of your app (the All Members superpower), the Messages screen gives you a second tab that lists every group chat and activity feed in your app — even ones you haven't joined. It's an easy way to keep an eye on everything happening across your community from one place.
📍 Where to Find This
- Tap the chat bubble icon 💬 in the top-left corner of the home screen to open your Messages screen.
- If you have the All Members permission, two tabs appear across the top: My Inbox and All Group Chats (marked with a yellow NEW badge).
- Tap All Group Chats to browse everything.
📥 The Two Tabs
- My Inbox — exactly the inbox you've always had: your notifications, plus the chats and activity feeds you've personally joined. Nothing here changes.
- All Group Chats — a new, admin-only tab listing every group chat and activity feed in the app, including ones you haven't joined and any that aren't tied to a specific portal.
When you open the All Group Chats tab, a short note at the top reminds you why you have this view: "Because you're an admin with permission to view & manage all members of this app, you're able to view every group chat and activity feed in the app, including ones you haven't joined."
Only admins with permission to view and manage all members see this tab. Parents, staff without that permission, and everyone else just see their usual inbox — nothing changes for them.
🔔 The "Not a Member" Icon
On the All Group Chats tab, any chat or feed you haven't joined shows a small bell-with-a-slash icon next to the date. It means just what it looks like: you're not currently a member of that chat or feed.
Tap the row anyway, and it'll open, prompting you to join — the same way subscribing to a chat works for anyone else.
❓ Good to Know
- The All Group Chats tab doesn't carry over the filter pills (Show All, Important, Notifications, Chats & Feeds) or the delete/trash option from My Inbox — those stay specific to your personal inbox.
- If you join a chat or feed from the All Group Chats tab, it won't appear in My Inbox until you leave the Messages screen and reopen it.
- A few chats or feeds may not be tied to a portal. Tapping one of those currently doesn't open anything — a known gap the team is aware of.
