Can a teacher create a private family group chat?
Yes — if an admin has given the teacher the "All screens & forms" permission. If not, an admin creates the chat, and the teacher runs it and adds the parents.
In Onespot, a group chat is just a type of screen, and creating a screen requires the "All screens & forms" Administrative Superpower.
Path A — You have "All screens & forms" access
You can create the chat yourself:
- From your home screen, tap ⚡ → New Screen → Group Chat.
- Give it a clear name (e.g. "Swift Family Chat").
- Under Manage Members → Add Members, add the parents who should be in it.
- Set access to "Only users in this chat have access" so only those families (and admins) can see or post.
That's it — the chat is now private to just those families.

⚠️ For admins: before granting "All screens & forms"
This permission isn't chat-only. It lets a teacher create, edit, or delete any screen in your app and change any screen's privacy settings — including other families' private chats.
If you only need a teacher to run one or a few chats/screens, don't grant it. Instead, either add them as an editor on that specific chat/screen, or create the chat yourself and let them manage the members (Path B below). Reserve "All screens & forms" for staff you trust with your whole app.

Ask an admin to create the group chat. Once it's set up, you can run it and manage members yourself:
Open the chat → tap the Group icon → Add User to add parents (or Subscribe All Members to bulk-add).
What "private" means
There's no separate "family" chat type. A chat becomes private when you limit it to specific parents using "Only users in this chat have access."
