Random Accounts Joining Your App: Why It Happens & How to Remove Them

When a new school app goes live in the app stores, it’s publicly discoverable, and anyone can download and try to join, even people outside your school community. This guide explains why that happens, how to prevent it by locking access, and how admins can quickly delete unwanted (spam) accounts.

We recommend locking your app from unwanted visitors:

🔒How locking helps:

  • Ensures privacy, security, and controlled user access to sensitive school information.
  • Locking by account type provides greater flexibility, allowing schools to create public-facing content for visitors while protecting staff and parent-specific resources
  • Keeps your school’s communication safe and accessible only to the right people.

❓ Why does this happen?

  • App store visibility: After app store approval, the app is open to the public by default, so anyone can download it.
  • Global reach: App stores are international; people from outside your community may find and join.
  • Curiosity & testing: Some users try new apps without the intent to use them, which can appear as random or spammy sign‑ups.
