Adding a New Screen to Everyone's Home Screen (and Notifying Users)

When you create a new screen in your app, Onespot offers a couple of optional follow-up steps right away — putting the screen on everyone's home screen, and sending a notification about it. Here's how each one works.

Right after you create a new screen

When you finish making a screen, you'll land on a confirmation page letting you know it was created. Just below that, you'll see one or two optional prompts. Nothing here is required — your screen already exists and is ready to use either way.

1. Add it to everyone's home screen

A new screen lives in your app right away, but it won't automatically show up on people's home screens.

Under "Want to add it to everyone's home screen?", tap Add for Everyone to place it on the home screen of everyone who has access to the screen.

If you skip this, your users can still add the screen to their own home screens later whenever they'd like.

What "everyone" means

Add for Everyone respects each user's access to the screen. It won't expose a restricted screen to anyone who isn't supposed to see it.

  • If the screen has no access restrictions, it will appear on every user's home screen.
  • If the screen is restricted to certain account types or user groups, only users with access will actually see it on their home screen. Everyone else won't see it.

So you can safely use Add for Everyone on a restricted screen — the home screen always filters out screens a user isn't allowed to see.

Choosing where it goes

After you tap Add for Everyone, you'll pick where it goes under "Where on everyone's home screen?":

  • Add as the last portal (recommended) — adds it to the end of the home screen for everyone who has access.
  • Add as the first portal (maximum visibility) — puts it at the very top.
  • Add in a specific spot (advanced) — enter a position number to place it exactly where you want it.

Once it's added, you'll see the confirmation "This portal has been added to everyone's home screen."

2. Notify your users about the new screen

If your admin account has permission to send notifications, you'll also see "Want to notify all your users about this new screen?" (This step only appears for brand-new screens, not when you edit an existing one.)

  • Tap Preview Notification to see exactly what your users will receive.
  • Tap Send Notification to send it out to everyone.

Important:

  • After sending, you'll see a note that your notification will be delivered to all users over the next few minutes.
  • The notification goes to all users, including any who don't have access to the screen. If the screen is restricted, consider whether notifying everyone makes sense, since some recipients won't be able to open it.
  • Only send this if you think all of your users would want to know about the new screen right away.
