How to Create a Prospective Family Account Type

This guide shows how to create a Prospective Family account type so interested families can join your app before enrollment.


Step 1: Go to Account Types

  • Click the ⚡ Lightning Bolt (Admin Superpowers)
  • Scroll to Settings
  • Select Account Types


Step 2: Create a New Account Type

  • Scroll down
  • Click + New Account Type


Step 3: Choose a Template

  • Select Parent as your template


Step 4: Rename & Configure Settings

  • Rename the account type to: Prospective Family

Choose how families can join:

Option 1: Public

  • Anyone can join as a prospective family

Option 2: Private (Recommended)

  • Set a passcode
  • Or invite families directly

Optional Settings:

Direct Chats (Messaging Access)

  • You can choose whether prospective families are allowed to send direct messages
  • ON → They can message (e.g., staff) directly (good for inquiries)
  • OFF → They cannot send direct messages

Transparent Classroom Role

  • Leave as Not linked (recommended for prospective families)

Step 5: Done (Auto-Saved)

  • Your changes are saved automatically — no save button needed
  • The new account type will immediately appear in your list
  • You can edit or delete it anytime using the trash icon

What Families Will See

When someone joins your app, they will see Prospective Family as an option during signup.

Common Questions


Do I need to click save?

No — everything is saved automatically as you make changes.


Can prospective families send messages?

Only if Direct Chats is turned ON. You control this setting.


Can prospective families access everything in the app?

No — access depends on what screens and permissions you allow.


No. Prospective families are not enrolled yet, so leave it unlinked.


Can I remove this later?

Yes — click the trash icon to delete the account type anytime.
