How to Turn Off Payment Methods in Stripe

For schools that prefer to disable certain payment types (e.g., credit cards), this guide walks you through how to turn off payment methods in Stripe, like credit cards, ACH, or others. This is especially useful for schools that want to only accept bank payments (e.g., Canadian pre-authorized debits, ACH Direct Debit, or SEPA Direct Debit).


🛠️ Step-by-Step: Turning Off Payment Methods in Stripe


Step 1: Log in to Stripe

Go to https://dashboard.stripe.com and log in.


Step 2: Navigate to the Payment Methods Settings

  • Click the dropdown in the top-left corner (where your business name appears)
  • Select “Settings” (⚙️gear icon)
  • Under the “Payments” section, click “Payment methods”

Step 3: Locate Available Payment Methods

You’ll see a list like this:

  • âś… ACH Direct Debit (US only)
  • âś… Canadian pre-authorized debits (for Canadian banks)
  • âś… Cards (credit/debit cards)
  • âś… SEPA Direct Debit, Giropay, iDEAL, etc.

Step 1: Click the Three Dots (⋯ )

To the right of any payment method you want to disable (like Cards):

  1. Click ⋯
  2. Click “View details”


Step 2: Turn Off the Method

A panel will appear from the right side.

Scroll down and click “Turn off”.

🛑 Once off, this method will no longer be offered to families or clients when paying invoices or subscriptions.

💡 Recommended: Disable “Cards” to Block Credit Card Payments

If your school wants to avoid card processing fees or only accept bank debit, simply turn off:

  • Cards
  • Any other non-bank methods like: Cash App Pay , Apple Pay , etc.

Once turned off, families won’t see these payment options anymore when they go to pay.
