Default-Configuration

When a new member joins your app, the layout they see on their home screen can be fully customized by you. Setting a default home screen helps you shape the experience for your community from the moment they open the app.

You can create one universal layout for all users — or build custom layouts by account type (like Parents, Staff, Students). This keeps each user’s app experience clean, relevant, and personalized.

👣 Step-by-Step: Set a Default Layout

1. Open Home Screen Arrangement Settings

  • Tap the ⚡ Lightning Bolt icon in the top-right of your app.
  • Select Administrative Superpowers.
  • Scroll to Settings, then click Home Screen Arrangement.

2. Choose Your Default Layout Option

You’ll see two options for setting up your default layout:

Option 1: Use my personal home screen arrangement as the default for all new members

  • Whatever your personal home screen looks like now will be used for all new members who join the app.
  • Want to update it? Just rearrange your own screen first, then save the setting.

Option 2: Use a separate default home screen arrangement for each account type

  • Toggle Use a separate default layout for each account type.

You can now define different layouts for:

    • Parents — Focus on billing, announcements, calendar.
    • Staff — Show chat, internal tools, remove “Contact Us”.
    • Students — Emphasize assignments, schedules, resources.
  • Each group will only see what’s relevant to them.

🧩 Customizing the Layout

To customize any layout:

  • Drag and drop portals into the desired order.
  • Use the toggle switches to hide or show features.
  • Click Save to apply the changes.

This setup only affects new members going forward — current users won’t be affected.

🧠 Important to Know:

Until a user customizes their personal home screen arrangement, their home screen will reflect the current default layout.

For example, if your default layout mirrors your own admin home screen, and you later add a new portal to the front of your screen, that new portal will automatically appear for all users — except those who’ve already customized their layout.

This approach gives you the best of both worlds:

  • Users who don’t want to customize anything will always stay up-to-date with your admin layout.
  • Users who want more control can still create a fully personalized layout.
